No daddy don't. . .

Even before we had a kid I had always said raising a kid was just a big science experiment. You hypothesize that if the baby is crying you should try something different. . . like not poking him with a stick. Most experiments are created spur of the moment (the physics of baby poo is a good example). Some you plan (like finding the best bedtime).

And some are just for fun.

For the past month, every time I change Mr. Schnicklefritz's diaper (I do most every diaper change at home) I pull the diaper out of the stacker and lightly bop him on the forehead with it. Nothing hard, just enough so he knows I did something. Now, every time I pull out a diaper he flinches.

I'm a bastard.

Awww it's actually a good thing. You are teaching him cause and effect. He knows when you change his diaper to expect it. It is like when I change Peyton's diaper and I say 123 and blow rasberries on his belly he giggles, now when I get close to 3 he is already giggling. He also knows when I say did you poot that means he pooped and he thinks it's histerical. These little ones are funny that way. ha ha. I am sure he will forget about it as he gets older and won't hold any grudges towards you. :)

I'm sure it's not too late to start a new "thing" to do that will make him not flinch and you feel better. At this point, it's probably more about making you feel better. I'm also pretty sure he won't be scarred for life although I can understand your worry. There have been moments when I've done something when I think, "Ooo, that wasn't good" and wonder what kind of long lasting affects it will have. See my post about losing it while changing my son's diaper and you'll feel like a saint!

haha that made me laugh, nothing to feel bad about, its just a reflex I'm sure he isn't hurt. My husband flinches because I like to pinch his sides (there so squishy, I love them)
